Political activists across the country watched closely as the final chapter of the 2016 Presidential election season was written. Very little drama ensued in Iowa as all six electors officially casted their votes for Donald Trump and Mike Pence on Monday afternoon.

A small band of protesters, organized by Iowa CCI, gathered around the Ray Conference room in the State Capitol but hardly made a disturbance. An activist from Iowa Falls calmly stated, “We aren’t happy with how the election turned out. We felt like we had to do something, so we came today to at least show we are worried about what’s coming.”

Governor Branstad commented on the demonstration, “They’ve been calm and polite so it’s not an imposition.”

Out-of-state protesters attempted to make their case to Iowa’s delegation as well. Don Kass, an elector from Plymouth County who serves as chairman of the local Republican Party, received roughly 1500 letters urging him not to vote for Trump.

The Electoral College affirmed Donald J Trump as President-elect and 45th President of the United States with 304 electoral votes.
