A group of Iowa House Republicans last week launched their attack on Obamacare, starting with components that fall under the purview of the Iowa General Assembly.
House File 94 was offered in the House last week and forwarded to the House Ways and Means Committee. It is sponsored by state Reps. Greg Heartsill (R-Melcher-Dallas), Guy Vander Linden (R-Oskaloosa), John Kooiker (R-Boyden), Dean Fisher (R-Garwin), Ralph Watts (R-Adel), Sandy Salmon (R-Janesville), Thomas Sands (R-Wapello), and Steven Holt (R-Denison).
The proposed legislation would repeal sections of the Code of Iowa that require taxpayers to indicate on their tax returns the presence or absence of health care coverage for their dependent children. It also repeals the requirement to apply for Medicaid or the HAWK-I program if they meet certain income eligibility standards.
If approved, HF 94 will be effective upon enactment, and retroactively applies to all tax years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2015.
