Republican presidential wannabe U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham went on CNN this morning to attack frontrunner Donald Trump. Apparently, throwing his own cell phone in a blender wasn’t enough of a clown car act to sufficiently destroy his credibility in the presidential primary process, so he took a page out of WWE chairman Vince McMahon’s book.
First, he attacked Trump’s supporters (because it worked so well for U.S. Sen. John McCain), by saying, “There are 25 percent of our party that probably thinks Obama was born in Kenya — or at least wants to believe that — there is 25 percent of our party that wants him to be a Muslim because they hate him so much. So, there is a dark side of politics that Mr. Trump is appealing to.”
Then, he went after Trump himself, saying, “Demagoguing immigrants — he’s not the first guy to do this, and he won’t be the last. There’s always a market for it, but it’s not sustainable. It will ruin our party. If he becomes the nominee, we’ll get killed.”
Even the CNN anchor interviewing him wasn’t buying it, pointing to the latest polling numbers that show Trump’s lead has again widened — in Graham’s home state of South Carolina, which comes third in the primary voting lineup — which led to the admission that Graham barely won a majority in the last GOP primary there. But he didn’t back down.
“The policies that Mr. Trump is proposing are demagoguery. His approach to describing illegal immigrants are hurting us with Hispanics. The way he attacks women is going to be a deathblow to the future of our party. Come to South Carolina, and I’ll beat his brains out.”
