Iran Nuclear Talks

Topic A LogoAccording to a report Wednesday afternoon by The Associated Press, Iran will be allowed to use its own inspectors to investigate the Parchin nuclear site, which the Islamic Republican has been long accused of using to develop nuclear arms.

AP, quoting a secret “side deal” document from the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency, said the agreement was arranged between Iran and the IAEA. However, the U.S. negotiators and those of the other five world powers involved in the negotiations of the overall nuclear deal were aware of it, and signed off on it.

Republican presidential hopefuls were universally outraged by the latest revelation.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz continued his call to block the “catastrophic” deal with Iran. And, in an interview with The Blaze just as the news was coming out, he said:

“Enough. Enough of the concessions, capitulations and backroom deals that make up President Obama’s catastrophic nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“The most recent revelation that Iran will be selecting its own inspectors to verify the nature of its nuclear program is made all the more egregious by the fact that as the single largest contributor to the IAEA (support that is mandated in the JCPOA) United States taxpayers will be paying for a farce that is a direct threat to their own security.

“This is not a partisan issue. It is not about President Obama’s political legacy. It is about the future of our country, and that of our allies. We have to stop this disastrous deal.”

While on a trip to Israel to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee didn’t mince any words in describing his disdain for the new revelations.

“Most people I’ve met in Israel ask the same thing, ‘Why does Obama trust Iran and its evil Ayatollahs?”  It makes no sense for the international community to inject $150 billion into Iran when we should be punishing these murderers by tightening the noose with suffocating sanctions.

“This toothless, embarrassing deal poses a direct threat to Israel, will trigger a nuclear arms race across the Middle East, and unleash a new wave of deadly Iranian-backed terrorism throughout the world. Their ultimate target by their own admission is the United States.  It must be stopped.”

Back on the campaign trail, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham said he would continue to fight against the Iran deal, and added the potential of cutting off funds to the IAEA as an option.

“Allowing the Iranians to inspect their own nuclear sites, particularly a notorious military site, is like allowing the inmates to run the jail.  The inspections won’t happen, can’t be trusted, and clearly, put America at risk.  This revelation is yet another example of how this deal, negotiated by the Obama Administration, is a dangerous capitulation to the Iranian regime.  It will ensure that, within a very short amount of time, Iran becomes a nuclear threshold state.

“The president said, ‘If Iran cheats, the world will know it.’  I respectfully ask, how exactly will the world know when Tehran cheats, if we are dependent on the Iranians to tell us?

“As a Senator today, I will continue to fight to stop this bad deal, including by withholding money to the IAEA, if necessary.  As President, I will negotiate a better deal with Iran that will truly protect our national security and the stability of the region.”

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker released a statement Wednesday evening, which stated:

“The more we learn about the Obama-Clinton Iran deal, the worse it gets. Allowing Iran to inspect its own alleged nuclear sites puts trust in a fanatical regime that’s cheated for decades and hates everything we stand for. This deal, and the secret side agreements that continue to emerge, jeopardize our safety and that of our closest allies. That’s why I would terminate the disastrous Obama-Clinton Iran deal on my first day as president.”
