Young named ‘Hero of Main Street’ by NRF

David Young NRF Hero of Main StreetFrom Press Release

Last week Iowa Congressman David Young accepted the “Hero of Main Street” award from the National Retail Federation. The award is given to Members of Congress who show outstanding support of the retail industry’s public policy proposals.

Congressman Young said, “I was honored to accept this award, because it reflects on the promise I made to the wonderful job creators in Iowa’s Third Congressional District. I told Iowans that I would be their voice in Washington – their representative – regardless of the political party they support. And as I travel the district each month and visit shops and stores in our cities, towns, and villages it is so clear to me that Main Street is what makes our economy go. I appreciate this recognition from the NRF, but the real thanks go to the Iowans out there – the risk takers that work so hard to bring jobs and opportunity to their communities.”

“NRF’s Heroes of Main Street have shown through their voting records that they care about retailers, big and small, and value the role these businesses play in communities around the country,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “By backing our policy priorities, Congressman Young has shown his commitment to a prosperous Main Street and to the long-term growth of retail – our nation’s largest private-sector employer.”

The ‘Heroes of Main Street’ awards were created by NRF in 2013 to recognize Members of Congress for outstanding support of the retail industry’s public policy priorities. These ‘heroes’ have publicly supported policies and initiatives — defined by NRF — that recognize the important contributions of the retail industry, and have worked to encourage a vibrant, sustained and healthy retail sector.
