A video is circulating this week from a Cedar Falls City Council meeting during which a councilman called a citizen an unflattering name.
During the May 18 council meeting, there was discussion about a plan to reconstruct University Avenue to include roundabouts. A citizen who was expressing his displeasure with the plan and was reading from an email from Councilor Frank Darrah was interrupted with a reminder of the council-imposed five-minute limit on citizen comments.
As the citizen noted he was trying to find his place, he was interrupted again by Councilor John Runchey, who serves the city’s Third Ward and is also Mayor Pro Tem, and an exchange between the two began. Scroll down to see the video of the exchange, which included Runchey calling the citizen a “horse’s a–.”
