U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa released the following statement regarding the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling on the Obama administration’s request to begin implementing its deferred action plan. The court denied the administration’s request.
“The separation of powers laid out by the framers of the Constitution is not just words on paper, but it serves as a fundamental way our federal government is structured. Unfortunately, the Obama administration seems to think that this basic framework established by the Constitution can be dismissed at its whim and with impunity. The Fifth Circuit put that notion to rest today, and for the near future the administration’s attempt to circumvent Congress and the rule of law on immigration policy will not be allowed.”
