Fiorina to officially announce candidacy at 3 p.m.

Leave it to former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina to take the high-tech approach in announcing her candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination.

The former tech businesswoman will make the announcement at 3 p.m. today during a special “town hall” event hosted on the Twitter application Periscope. Periscope is the relatively new competitor to Meerkat in which Twitter users can broadcast live video for anyone to see using any mobile device with a camera.

Followers can tune in by searching for @CarlyFiorina within the Periscope app and they can tweet their questions using the hashtag #Carly2016.

Fiorina, who has come to Iowa several times since her coming-out party in January at the Iowa Freedom Summit, will return later this week to begin the official stump. She will appear at he Blue Strawberry Coffee Company, 118 2nd Street Southeast #100 in Cedar Rapids, at 8:30 a.m. Thursday for a breakfast event. Later in the evening, she will speak at the Dallas County GOP’s spring speaker series at the West Des Moines Marriott, 1250 Jordan Creek Parkway, beginning at 6 p.m.
