The Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators has confirmed its line-up of potential presidential candidates who will attend the eighth annual “Homeschool Day at the Capitol” on Thursday, April 9.
“There was strong interest from a number of potential and likely candidates and we’re very happy that four outstanding national voices — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum from Pennsylvania — will be participating in our big day,” NICHE President Justin LaVan said today. “We’re expecting an interesting and informative dialogue between our members and the prospective candidates. We’re looking forward to not only hearing about their visions for our nation but also articulating our priorities as parents who believe strongly in the value of home education.”
National syndicated talk radio host Steve Deace will be hosting the session with Cruz, Huckabee, Jindal and Santorum.
LaVan noted the day’s activities will begin at the Capitol with families from across Iowa meeting with their hometown lawmakers and participating in other meetings, including one with Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds. Participants, expected to number more than 1,000, will gather at the Holiday Inn Airport that afternoon for a roundtable discussion featuring prominent Iowa home educators, several brief presentations and the prospective candidates’ appearances. Sponsors of the day-long event include The FAMiLY LEADER, which works to strengthen families, by inspiring Christ-like leadership in the home, the church, and the government.
Formed in 1992, NICHE is Iowa’s only statewide homeschooling organization providing support and information to home educating families through a variety of events and resources, including an annual conference, a formal graduation service, a quarterly magazine and bi-monthly member e-newsletter, legislative services and multi-faceted assistance to local homeschooling groups and individual families.
