According to The Ocala Star-Banner, someone may soon have digestive issues. The newspaper reported Monday that a truck loaded with $85,000 worth of cargo was stolen Sunday from a parking lot in nearby Summerfield, FL.
The precious cargo, enough shredded mozzarella cheese for tens of thousands of pizzas, was bound for the Hungry Howies Pizza distribution center in Lakeland, FL. The semi-trailer’s refrigerated trailer, known as a “refer”, was parked while the tractor rig was being checked by a mechanic.
The Star-Banner’s report states the driver was traveling with his girlfriend, both of whom are from the Michigan area, which is where the pizza chain has its headquarters. On Sunday, the woman drove by the parking lot to check on the trailer and noticed it was missing.
Officers investigating the missing trailer learned that a 2007 Kenworth hauler also had been reported stolen from the same lot and presumably was used to take the trailer. The reality TV show “Big Rig Bounty Hunters” is based on similar cases.
